The Los Angeles company, which plans to liquidate its holdings by May 21, blamed a depressed market for forcing it to lower its estimate of what a sale of its Transit Casualty unit will bring as its underwriting results continue to deteriorate. This could require a write-down of “a substantial portion” of the subsidiary’s worth, presently carried at about $32 million.
