Head of Drug Agency Resigns

WASHINGTON — Francis Mullen Jr. resigned today as head of the Drug Enforcement Administration to take a job in private industry.
Federal law enforcement sources said John C. Lawn, the agency’s deputy administrator, is the front-runner to replace the 50-year-old Mullen if President Reagan decides to pick a career law enforcement official and not make a political appointment. Mullen had been a career FBI official.
