Corsair Cagers to Face L.A. City, Second-Ranked El Camino College

Santa Monica College’s men’s basketball team will visit Los Angeles City College at 7:30 p.m. Friday then will host El Camino, rated second in the state by the J.C. Athletic Bureau, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Los Angeles City College (9-9, 0-2) boasts 6-2 sophomore guard, Kevin Richardson, who averages 13.8 points a game; 6-6 sophomore forward, Steve Watley (11.3 points, seven rebounds), and 6-6 sophomore center, Milbert Millander, (10.1 points, 6.4 rebounds).
El Camino (17-1, 2-0) is shooting 60.4% from the floor and 65.9% from the line. The Warriors are averaging 82.8 points to their opponents’ 56.4.
Gregory Hill, 6-1 sophomore guard, was All-Metro last year and is the Warriors’ leading scorer (17-point average), followed by Dwayne Lewis, 6-4 freshman guard-forward, (14.1). Dornell Jermany, 6-5 freshman forward/center, is leading the team in rebounds (7.5) and Mark Wade, 6-1 sophomore guard, is leading in assists (10.6).
The Corsairs (8-9, 1-1) opened Metropolitan Conference competition last week with a 79-62 loss to Long Beach and a 56-51 win over Harbor. Santa Monica forward Kim Jones scored 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds and made four steals against Long Beach, then scored 17 points and added 10 rebounds against Harbor.
