A proposal was made to Eastern and its unions

A mediator presented the Miami-based carrier and its three unions with a new contract proposal as both sides continued talks aimed at reaching a labor agreement. An Eastern spokesman would not disclose terms of the proposal, which was drafted by William Usery, employed as a mediator by th airline. Officials of the unions could not be reached for comment on the proposal.
