Fatih Captures Arcadia Handicap

Bill Shoemaker gave a riding lesson to Santa Anita jockeys Sunday, taking lightly regarded Fatih to the front and holding him there for a head victory in the $109,300 Arcadia Handicap on the turf at Santa Anita.
It was the second major victory in seven days for Shoemaker, who last Sunday won the $500,000 Santa Anita Handicap with Lord At War to go over the $100 million mark in career earnings.
At the finish, Fatih barely held off Tsunami Slew, while longshot Swoon came flying along the rail to finish third. But the victory was credited to Shoemaker’s ability at taking a lightly regarded horse to the front, rating him on the pace and then having enough left to hold off closing challenges.
