PRAIA, Cape Verde — Assistant Secretary of State Chester A. Crocker arrived Monday in the Cape Verde Republic for talks with an Angolan Cabinet minister on the two nations’ tentative relations and the broader situation in southern Africa.
Crocker, the top U.S. official for African affairs, will meet Angolan Interior Minister Alexandre Rodrigues, with whom he has had previous discussions. The question of independence for South African-ruled Namibia (South-West Africa) is expected to be high on the agenda, as well as the issue of withdrawing Cuban troops from Angola, a U.S. demand.
