Community College Baseball : Golden West Holds Off Orange Coast for 16-12 Win

Golden West College scored 12 runs in the first three innings then held off a late Orange Coast rally for a 16-12 victory in a South Coast Conference baseball game Tuesday at Orange Coast.
The teams combined for 31 hits, including a grand slam by Keith Kaub that sparked Golden West’s seven-run third inning. Orange Coast scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to make it close.
Dan Garcia was 4 for 5 with 2 RBIs for Golden West and Shane Flores, the conference batting champion last season, was 4 for 5. Steve Kraiss was 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs for Orange Coast. Gene Roumimper had a solo home run and a double for the Pirates. The win evened Golden West’s conference record at 2-2. Orange Coast fell to 1-3.
In other South Coast Conference action:
Cypress 10, Saddleback 3--Jim Bennet scattered six hits over 8 innings to record the win at Cypress. Mark Baca and Bert Lizaragga each hit two-run homers for the Chargers (2-1, 8-5). Baca finished the day 2 for 5 with 5 RBIs. Joe Holden was 3 for 4 for Saddleback, including his second home run in two days.
Cerritos 6, Santa Ana 3--Sophomore righthander Dave Serrano got the complete-game victory at Cerritos as the Falcons extended their winning streak to 13. Mike Benjamin was 3 for 5 with a double, triple and 1 RBI for Cerritos (4-0, 14-1). Morgan Flynn, David Keith, Vince Shinholster and Doug Maher had two hits each for Santa Ana.
