The pilot of a single-engine airplane was injured late Tuesday when his craft crashed less than a mile from the Fallbrook Community Air Park. The pilot, identified by an air park spokeswoman as Dan Luke of Fallbrook, was taken to Fallbrook Hospital with a broken thigh and multiple cuts. He was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit, according to a nursing supervisor. The air park spokeswoman said the plane, a Cessna Cardinal, crashed about 7 p.m. near Merida Drive and Todos Santos Place, northwest of the airport. The plane was destroyed. Luke, who is in his 50s, reportedly was attempting to find the airport in low-visibility conditions when the crash occurred. A Federal Aviation Administration investigator was en route to the crash site late Tuesday.
