A Tustin man was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of raping a Costa Mesa woman after he walked her home from a bar where they met, police said.
Costa Mesa Police Sgt. George Yesbick said the alleged incident occurred at the unidentified victim’s residence on East Bay Street about 12:30 a.m. The victim told police she had met John Frederick Mitcham, 23, a few hours earlier at a bar on Newport Boulevard.
She said Mitcham walked her home, then assaulted her. The police spokesman said officers were called to the residence by the woman’s friends, who had chased and caught Mitcham.
Mitcham was booked on suspicion of rape and was being held in the Costa Mesa City Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, Yesbick said.
