Construction has begun on a 46-unit public housing development for the elderly and handicapped at 133 S. Herbert Ave. in East Los Angeles.
Scheduled for completion by October, the $1.9-million low-rent project is being built by Walton Associates Cos. according to a design by architect Marvin Berman.
The Community Development Commission, which operates the county’s public housing program, will own and operate the project. The commission now manages about 2,800 units countywide.
