Hail, Thunderstorms Hit Plains

Large-size hail accompanied wind-swept thunderstorms and downpours into the Plains, while scattered rain showers stretched across the Great Lakes region into some Atlantic Coast states.
Parts of northwest Texas and northwest Oklahoma were battered by golf-ball-size hail, and 1 1/2-inch hail bombarded Meckling, S.D. A Colorado State Patrol dispatcher said nearly six inches of hail fell in Cheyenne County, Colo.
