At least three people were killed and 21 wounded as fighting between Christian and Muslim militias in Beirut entered its fourth week, police said. President Amin Gemayel’s palace in suburban Baabda was hit by heavy machine-gun fire, but Gemayel was not hurt, they said. In southern Lebanon, the Lebanese Forces, the country’s largest Christian rightist militia coalition, began withdrawing by boat for the Christian heartland north of Beirut, militia officials said.
