Local News in Brief : GOP Volunteer Wins Honor at Party’s State Convention

Shirley Whitney, described as one of the most active Republican Party volunteers in the San Fernando Valley, has been given the party’s Citizen Politician of the Year award.
Whitney, 75, was honored with a surprise presentation Sunday in San Diego at the conclusion of the state party’s semiannual convention.
“I was just thunderstruck,” said Whitney, a Reseda resident. About 1,700 people watched the presentation during the convention’s general session.
