Phil Niekro failed in a fourth bid for his 300th victory, but Don Mattingly hit a two-run homer to tie the score and Don Baylor singled home Dave Winfield to cap a three-run ninth inning Monday night at New York that gave the Yankees a 5-4 victory over Baltimore.
