Superior Sets Records in Sales and Profits

Superior Industries, a Van Nuys-based manufacturer of aluminum car wheels, reported that profits and sales reached record highs for the company’s third quarter ended Sept. 30 and for the first nine months of the year.

Net income for the quarter was up 91% to $1.4 million, or 29 cents a share. Sales for the period were up 21%, to $31.6 million.

For the first nine months of the year, net income was $5.5 million, or $1.14 per share, up 97% from the same period a year ago. Sales for the period were up 21%, to $99.4 million.

The company attributed its performance to increased sales of the wheels as original equipment on General Motors, Ford and Chrysler cars. Sales of the wheels as accessories also improved.
