About 250,000 households in central and southeast Los Angeles County can expect to receive a questionnaire from the U.S. Census Bureau in the mail today.
The bureau said the query is to pretest techniques intended to improve the way the bureau will do its job during the next nationwide census in 1990.
Four-fifths of the households in 21 sample communities will receive a 17-item questionnaire, inquiring about the number, ages and relationships of the residents, explained bureau spokesman John Ramirez. A more detailed, 60-question survey will be sent to the remaining households, Ramirez said. The longer form will ask about languages spoken in the home, household income, previous military service, the annual cost of utilities and the dwelling’s age.
Those who receive the forms are asked to complete and return them by Sunday, Ramirez said.
