Games Wash Out Under Dark Skies and Steady Rain

Rain made this a bad week for outdoor weddings and outdoor sports. Of course, a wedding can be moved indoors. But in the Valley, the same can’t be said for a baseball game or a track meet.
Of 15 events scheduled for this week by Cal State Northridge, Cal Lutheran and The Master’s College, 11 were canceled or postponed. Most junior college and high school outdoor events were washed out as well.
Of course, the men’s volleyball match between CSUN and USC was played Tuesday as scheduled. Volleyball is played either indoors or at the beach, and the men had their shoes on for this one. CSUN may have wished the match had been canceled after being trounced by the top-ranked Trojans, 15-9, 15-5 and 15-11.
Despite sunny skies Friday, the forecast for the weekend is bleak. The National Weather Service called for an 80% chance of rain in the Valley today and Sunday.
Nine college events and five high school baseball doubleheaders are planned for today. If you want to know if they’ll be played, glance out your window. If a flock of ducks is huddled beneath your patio umbrella, chances are the games have been called off.
