An overturned truck hauling 50,000 pounds of chocolate candy blocked traffic on the southbound Orange Freeway for about two hours Monday morning while workers cleared the scattered cargo, California Highway Patrol information officer Matt Clark said.
The driver, Clifton Knox, 29, of Rialto, was taken to UCI Medical Center with facial cuts and possible head and internal injuries after his truck, carrying M&Ms; candies, overturned south of Imperial Highway, blocking the two right lanes. Workers were forced to unload the remaining candy from the refrigerated trailer before it could be turned upright, Clark said.
Knox lost control of the truck when he drifted toward the right shoulder and overcorrected to the left, Clark said. After overturning, the truck hit a lamp post.
