5 Killed in S. African Violence

CROSSROADS, South Africa — Three black civilians were burned alive by mobs today and two policeman, including a white off-duty officer, were shot to death.
The white officer was killed at Crossroads near Cape Town, and a black policeman was shot while investigating arsons in the area. A black man and woman were doused with gasoline and set afire at Sondagsfontein in northern Transvaal province, and a black man was burned to death in Soweto, outside of Johannesburg.
