Hendricks’ Three Hits Leads USIU Past SDSU

SAN DIEGO — Steve Hendricks had three hits and knocked in a run Monday night to lead United States International University to a 7-4 win over San Diego State in a nonconference college baseball game at Smith Field.
Rian Long (3-7) allowed two runs in eight innings but needed relief help from Corey Way in the ninth to pick up the win. Richard Holsman (1-1) was the starter and loser for SDSU.
The Gulls (8-22) snapped a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth inning, the first coming on Kevin Robinson’s sacrifice fly. USIU added two runs in the sixth inning and two in the eighth to post the win.
San Diego State (14-7-1) will meet 10th-ranked Cal State Fullerton today at 5 p.m. at Smith Field.
