Parade Effort Recognized: The city has received an award from a Pennsylvania-based organization for its community volunteer effort in designing and constructing a prize-winning 1986 Rose Parade float. The Freedoms Foundation, based in Valley Forge, presents yearly awards to cities and individuals who exemplify the “principles of liberty unique to the United States.” Mayor Dan Griset will accept the award at a dinner April 24 at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station. Hundreds of volunteers worked on the float, titled “Architects of Freedom,” which won the parade’s Theme Trophy.
