A Los Angeles man was indicted by a federal grand jury Tuesday on charges of taking more than $38,000 in 15 bank robberies, most of them in the San Fernando Valley, authorities said.
John David Thompson, 49, has been in custody since his arrest Jan. 16 for an unspecified parole violation stemming from a previous bank robbery conviction in 1979, said Assistant U.S. Atty. James McGinnis.
The indictment alleges that Thompson robbed 15 banks from last November to January, netting more than $38,000, McGinnis said. Thirteen of the banks were in the San Fernando Valley area and the others in Seal Beach and West Los Angeles, authorities said.
McGinnis said Thompson is expected to be arraigned Monday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.
