Mark Edward Hand, accused of throwing two cups of acetic acid in the face of a 4-year-old girl, pleaded innocent by reason of insanity to assault charges in Orange County Superior Court. Trial was set for May 12. Hand, 26, a former mental patient on parole for burglary, was arrested two days after Rachel Ogawa was attacked at Los Coyotes Regional Park on Jan. 18. Doctors had feared the girl was blinded, but she is recovering.
