Police were having trouble keeping up with a pair of suspected bank robbers Friday--so they took to bicycles to make the arrest.
Officers jumped on the bikes after detectives following the suspect’s car began lagging behind in heavy traffic at 3 p.m. along University Avenue in Hillcrest.
When the pair--suspected of robbing 15 banks and two post offices throughout San Diego County of $15,000 during the last six weeks--drove into a mini-market parking lot, the bike-riding officers closed in and made the arrest without incident, according to Bill Robinson, San Diego police spokesman.
Police had the bicycles on hand for just such a situation as part of the stakeout operation that netted the robbery suspects. Joseph Revis, 34, of Los Angeles, and Patricia Valenzuela, 32, a transient from the Imperial Valley area, were arrested on suspicion of bank robbery, Robinson said.
