Liberty Weekend

Hey, I’m as patriotic as the next guy! I can cry at a ballgame when I see the flag and hear the national anthem. My heart fills with pride when I see the Statue of Liberty bathed in the light of thousands of floodlights and fireworks, but this last weekend’s celebration seemed like a media hype and photo-opportunity event featuring Ron and Nancy Reagan.
Mercifully, maybe we won’t be deluged again with this kind of excess until Ron’s 100th birthday, at which time he could still be President if Congress would cooperate with his scenario.
Heaven forbid!
