I was delighted to read Jerry Hulse’s June 15 article on Sherman House in San Francisco. It is a wonderful facility and deserving of his high praise. I am also delighted that he has overcome his hesitancy to recommend places that are more costly than modest hotels. I so well remember his article on bed-and-breakfast inns (Feb. 23) when he found the prices at Roseholm (less than half those at Sherman House) to be too exorbitant to ever be considered.
The question now arises: If Roseholm were to call itself a small hotel would it be a bargain? If Sherman House were to call itself an inn would it be too exorbitant to ever consider?
Who was it who said, “Beware of foolish consistency?” At least Jerry isn’t guilty of that.
