The World Bank reported that it made a record $16.3 billion in loans to Third World countries in its 1986 fiscal year. India remained by far the biggest borrower during 1986, receiving $2.3 billion in loans, the organization said in its annual report. The other top borrowers were Brazil, with $1.62 billion, followed by China, Indonesia and Turkey, each with $1.1 billion. The bank reported that it made $13.1 billion in loans to 41 of the world’s more rapidly developing nations. It also reported that it earned a record $1.2 billion on its operations for the fiscal year that ended June 30.
