France and Iran

I am writing in reference to the article (Nov. 20) regarding reports that “France . . . sent arms to Iran.”
Allow me to express my surprise that the authors of the article did not take into account the statements by our foreign affairs minister, M. Jean-Bernard Raimond, during a luncheon with the Anglo-American press on Nov. 7, to which, I am sure, your Paris correspondent was invited.
Raimond stated: “Since this government was formed and we undertook to normalize our relations with Iran, we have said very clearly to the Iranians, as well as to the other parties with whom we have had talks, that we would not sell arms to Iran.”
