A six-hour appeal, the “Lou Rawls Parade of Stars Telethon,” netted more than $10.1 million in pledges for the United Negro College Fund, a spokeswoman said in Los Angeles. “The only way we are going to solve many of today’s problems is through education,” Rawls said. This is the third year the telethon had been broadcast nationally.
