Marques Johnson of the Clippers is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Neurosurgeons Elliott Blinderman and Maxwell Andler will perform the operation, which will fuse two vertebrae in Johnson’s neck.
Johnson was injured early in the season when he collided with teammate Benoit Benjamin. He was scheduled to have the operation in January but called it off.
After that, the Clippers took Johnson off the payroll, exercising a clause in his contract allowing them to spread one season’s salary over two seasons in the event of his permanent disability.
