HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS : BASEBALL

Cleveland High remained undefeated in the West Valley League with a 3-0 victory over Reseda at Cleveland behind the pitching of Henry Schelb. Schelb (2-0) lost a bid for a no-hitter in the fifth inning when Kevin Ogle singled to right field. Schelb, a junior, then pitched his way out of jams in the last three innings for a five-hit win.
Reseda (1-2) also got a strong outing from pitcher Steve Brody (0-1), who held the Cavaliers (3-0) to just two hits and one earned run while striking out six. Brody was ejected in the seventh inning when he took out his frustrations by trying to knock the ball out of the hands of Cavalier first baseman Mike Bergen, who fielded Brody’s ground ball.
Cleveland scored two unearned runs in the fifth when Reseda third baseman Donnie Grant threw wide to home with runners on second and third, allowing Bergen and Jimmy Doushgounian to score the final runs of the game.
