Costa Mesa Firm to Make RTD Bus Passes

Daleco Holographics Inc. of Costa Mesa will produce more than 3 million bus passes featuring a laser-generated hologram for the Southern California Rapid Transit District.
The newly designed monthly bus pass, called a “flash pass,” is intended to make counterfeiting and other forgery more difficult, RTD officials said. The new passes, featuring the three-color stripes of the RTD, an outline of the Los Angeles skyline and the hologram in the lower-right corner, are about to go on sale for April. “Not only are we right on top of technology with these new passes, but they will save the district money as well,” said John Dyer, RTD’s general manager. Daleco will be paid $255,000 for the passes. “The holograms, very much like the ones you see on a bank credit card, are very difficult to duplicate and can be changed on our passes on very short notice. This will result in less lost revenue because of forgeries,” Dyer said.
