Donald C. Burr, the founder of People Express Airlines, which last year was acquired by Texas Air Corp., has resigned as executive vice president and a director of Texas Air, the company said.
Texas Air issued a brief statement saying Burr would leave the company effective this Wednesday “to pursue independent business interests.”
Burr, however, would remain at Texas Air as a consultant, the company said.
Burr, 45, revolutionized the airline industry with his no-frills People Express, which he founded in 1981. But the rapidly expanding carrier ran into financial problems, and last year was bought by Houston-based Texas Air.
In February, People Express merged with Continental Airlines, a Texas Air subsidiary.
