Motta: He’s Not Interested in Clipper Job

Dallas Maverick Coach Dick Motta told the Clippers Tuesday that he has withdrawn as a candidate for the club’s vacant head coaching job because he wants to remain in Dallas.

The Mavericks had given the Clippers, who are searching for a new coach, permission to talk with Motta last Friday.

“I withdrew,” Motta said. “I talked it over with my family and it was very intriguing because they have three (first-round) draft picks. But I didn’t think it was for me. And I didn’t want to hold them (the Clippers) up.”

Meanwhile, a Clipper source said that the club has opened negotiations with Hubie Brown, who was fired as coach of the New York Knicks last December. The Clippers have also interviewed ex-Phoenix Sun Coach John MacLeod and ex-Philadelphia 76er Coach Gene Shue.
