Community College Softball : Passed Ball Opens Door for Cypress

Sue Boxley scored from third on a passed ball as Cypress College upset Saddleback, 1-0, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Wednesday at Cypress.
Saddleback (15-4, 31-9) remains in first place because Orange Coast upset Rancho Santiago, 1-0, Wednesday. The conference season ends Friday.
Boxley singled off loser Patty Taylor (24-5) to open the first, moved to second on an error and was sacrificed to third.
Noel Parker (17-18) pitched her ninth shutout for third-place Cypress (10-9, 20-20).
In other Orange Empire Conference play:
Orange Coast 1, Rancho Santiago 0--Veronica Gallegos singled and scored on a throwing error as the Pirates (5-14, 18-20) upset the Dons at home.
Julie Whetstone (5-14) pitched a three-hitter to get the victory, and Joyce Lyman (19-5) took the loss for Rancho Santiago (15-4, 28-9).
