PROMOTING ‘PEPPER’S’

Yes, Mr. Hilburn, your reassessment of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” is way too harsh (“Demoting ‘Sgt. Pepper’s,’ ” by Robert Hilburn, May 31).

First, you and other rock critics heaped more pretentious praise on this album than any recording deserves. Now you decide to take it all back.

I question how good you are after 20 years, rather than “Sgt. Pepper’s.” I continue to find it an incomparable record, and it is especially uplifting driving to and from work.
