Four Shipyard Workers Hurt as Platform Falls
- Share via
Four shipyard workers were injured Saturday afternoon in San Pedro when a cable snapped and the platform they were riding plummeted 50 feet to the deck of a ship, a Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman said.
One of the men was critically injured, one was in serious condition and two were in fair condition, he said. The accident occurred at the Todd Shipyards, where the Matsonia was docked. The workers were riding the platform in preparation for work when “a cable or a buckle snapped, releasing the platform,” the spokesman said.
Firefighters, using a crane and litter, took 45 minutes to untangle the men from the debris.
