Three men believed to have been involved in the shooting death of an unidentified man whose body was found Friday in the San Luis Rey River have been arrested, Oceanside police said.
Taken into custody on Saturday were Vrej Apelian, 22, an enlisted man stationed at Miramar Naval Air Station, and Arsen Antounian, 18, of Rosemead, Calif., both of whom were apprehended at a residence in the 800 block of South Pacific Street. Matthew Hoover, 19, was arrested at Oceanside police headquarters, where he had been brought for questioning.
All three were arrested on suspicion of murder. Apelian and Antounian are also suspected of robbery.
Police said they suspect that others were involved in the shooting, which occurred near Loretta Street. Police do not know the identity of the victim, whom they described as a man in his 20s, nor do they know a motive for the killing.
