Law enforcement officers trying to serve a search warrant in San Joaquin County shot a pit bull they said was threatening to attack them. The dog broke free from a chain near the front of the home where the warrant in a drug case was to be served in French Camp south of Stockton, sheriff’s Sgt. G. Rector said. One officer distracted the pit bull with a flare, but a shot was fired when the dog crouched and appeared ready to attack, Rector said. That shot did not stop the dog, so when it appeared about to attack again, a Secret Service agent shot it three times, Rector added. An animal control officer then was called out and had the wounded dog put to sleep.
