Redondo Beach : Ferry to Catalina Gets OK

Catalina Channel Express Inc. of San Pedro has received approval from the state Public Utilities Commission to begin ferry service from Redondo Beach to Santa Catalina Island.
It is too late in the summer tourist season, however, to begin the service, said Greg Bombard, vice president and general manager of the firm. He said he hopes to begin daily round trips next spring.
Bombard said construction will begin soon on office space and floats at Redondo Beach’s King Harbor.
