The Banning Residence Museum has announced the appointment of Shelley Mills as curator, a newly created full-time position.
The museum, operated by the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, is a state and national historic landmark. It was built in 1864 by Phineas Banning, the founder of the Port of Los Angeles.
Mills, who moved from San Francisco to Long Beach to take the job, will lead efforts to preserve and restore the mansion’s interiors and its collection of decorative arts.
