Retailers Report Sales Gains

NEW YORK — The nation’s largest general retailers reported mostly favorable June sales results today, but analysts surveying the figures said they expect consumer spending will continue at a cautious rate.
The nation’s largest retailer, Sears, Roebuck & Co., reported its June sales rose 4.5% from June, 1986. K mart Corp. said its sales rose 6.5%, J. C. Penney Co. Inc. reported a 2.4% increase and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said its sales for June were up 34%.
