TICKETS FOR LOS ANGELES FESTIVAL BEING SENT OUT

After a delay caused partly by a greater demand for tickets than predicted, organizers of the Los Angeles Festival plan to start sending out tickets for the September arts event today.

“We had many more ticket orders than we had even hoped for,” said Leigh Drolet, festival associate director and general manager Thursday.

About $1.1 million in ticket orders had been received by the festival box office as of Wednesday, Drolet said. The response--coupled with a change of ticketing procedures--caused the delay, she said.

Festival organizers had originally hoped to handle all mail-order ticketing themselves, Drolet said, but decided six weeks ago to work instead in association with the Ticketron ticket agency.

“It’s taken us a little longer than expected to make the change,” she said.

During the past week, about two people a day have called the festival box office inquiring when they will receive their tickets, Drolet added.

More than 35 performances, including those by dance, theater and music groups from around the world, will be offered Sept. 3-27 during the Los Angeles Festival.
