Nord is correct when he says students taught only the scientific view of the world will be getting a biased education. He argues that to really understand their world, students need to learn about religion as well as science.
It would be easy to get the impression from Nord’s article that scientists are opposed to the teaching of religion in the public schools. This is not the case. Scientists are only opposed to presenting bogus science as if it were legitimate.
The real opposition to the teaching of religion in the public schools comes from the religious factions in our society. Nord suggests that the establishment of secularism in the public schools may be a violation of the First Amendment. If he is right, we will not get religion added to the public school curriculum, we may lose the public schools.
