Six RTD maintenance yards passed safety checks during surprise inspections conducted by the California Highway Patrol. Three garages that had failed earlier inspections passed the latest tests. More than 90 buses were inspected, and none was pulled from service. Earlier this year RTD maintenance yards in Pacoima, Carson and Pomona failed the CHP tests, giving the RTD its worst inspection record since 1979. In the latest test, those yards were reinspected and buses at garages in South-Central Los Angeles, West Hollywood and Chatsworth were also given surprise checks.
