R.H. Estates : Big Truck Ban Ordered
The City Council has adopted an ordinance barring trucks that weigh more than three tons from traveling northbound, or downhill, on Crenshaw Boulevard from Silver Spur Road to the city boundary north of Palos Verdes Drive North.
City officials hope the ordinance will reduce serious accidents caused by brake failure and other malfunctions on the steep incline, City Manager Raymond B. Taylor said. Trucks will be encouraged to use Hawthorne Boulevard where turn-out lanes covered with gravel can stop runaway vehicles, he said.
The ordinance will take effect in August.
