Taiwan plans orders of big-ticket U.S. goods.

Engaged in a campaign to spend $2.28 billion on American products, the Taiwanese government will spend $1 billion for six Boeing 747s and has signed a contract for boilers from Livingston, N.J.-based Foster Wheeler Corp., an industrial equipment maker, worth $75 million. It plans to buy $47 million worth of coal from a West Virginia supplier and $12.4 million worth of fruit and beef. Taiwan, whose key market is the United States, has dropped scores of tariffs and other trade barriers in recent months in reaction to U.S. complaints.
