North County

The California State University and Colleges board of trustees Wednesday directed the state Department of General Services to negotiate for the purchase of approximately 304 acres in San Marcos for a North County campus of San Diego State University.

The state budget includes $19 million for state university campus sites in North County and Ventura. SDSU President Thomas Day told trustees that his campus reached capacity in 1984 and that the San Marcos site will “provide desperately needed educational opportunities to the burgeoning North County population.”

The site under negotiation is the former Prohoroff poultry farm south of California 78.
