At one time or another, they’ve played against each other on sand and indoor courts, in high school, college or afterward. Many are either current or former members of the U.S. Olympic team, most were NCAA All-Americans and some currently make a tidy sum on the professional beach circuit.

The Team Cup Volleyball League, which held its player draft Wednesday, is scheduled to begin its second season of play Sept. 8 at the Forum.
Singin Smith, Karch Kiraly, Steve Timmons and Dusty Dvorak are team captains in the four-team league, which features games to 30 points instead of the traditional 15. Teams compile points even when they are not serving until the score reaches 24, at which point standard scoring procedures prevail.
Kiraly, who captained last year’s Team Cup champion team, selected U.S. national team members Craig Buck of Tarzana and Jeff Stork of Topanga.
Each team will play a six-game schedule.
