Aztec-Wyoming Basketball Game Included in 1988 ESPN Schedule

The first meeting between San Diego State’s new basketball coach, Jim Brandenburg, and his former Wyoming team will be televised nationally by ESPN.

The game on Jan. 28 in the San Diego Sports Arena is part of an ESPN package of Western Athletic Conference games designed for live late-night broadcast in the East. Starting time is 8:30 p.m. PST.

Other broadcasts will include: Brigham Young at Wyoming on Jan. 15, Utah at BYU on Feb. 4 and Texas-El Paso at New Mexico on Feb. 26.

Conference and ESPN officials haven’t formally announced the package but the schedule was confirmed Thursday by Al Seethaler, general manager/vice president of KUTV-TV in Salt Lake City, whose station is providing broadcast facilities.

The ESPN games are separate from a package of nine conference games to be syndicated by KUTV-TV. Discussions are under way to carry the games in San Diego, Seethaler said.

Two San Diego State games--Feb. 20 against Utah in the Sports Arena and Brandenburg’s return to Wyoming Feb. 27--are part of the syndication deal announced Thursday.

Other syndicated games are Hawaii at Utah Jan. 9, Utah at Air Force Jan. 16, BYU at New Mexico Jan. 23, New Mexico at UTEP Jan. 30, New Mexico at Wyoming Feb. 6, Colorado State at BYU Feb. 13 and UTEP at BYU March 5.
